P's Product Spotlight: Converse Chuck Taylor x Marimekko
What happens when a Heritage shoe crosses paths with a boldly unique Finnish textile icon ; A timeless and clamorous lovechild is born.
In 2011, Marimekko and Converse collaborated on a women's focused collection of soles, since then they have brought us some of the most graphic polka dots, blooming poppies, lucid kaleidoscopes, and now we are blessed with a delicious bowl of Mansikka's (strawberry in Finnish). This particular print has been a design in Marimekko's hands since 1967, created by Maji Isola.
The newest collaboration has hit the stores last month and is being offered in four different converse styles; the Chuck Taylor high-top, low-top and !platform! (for the fashion forward) as well as the Jack Purcell Helen. Wearing any one of these you will absolutely find yourself in a case of "Happy Feet".
Last month, P was expedited to Boston for a business trip and made it a point to visit some design shops. The Marimekko on Newburry Street ended up being very fruitful as he successfully handpicked me some high top Chuck Taylor strawberries along with the Marimekko 1/2013 Spring Issue Newspaper. Needless to say, the Mansikka's are as bold as they appear on the photos, perfectly printed on the converse's staple quality canvas. As a special touch they printed both the inside and outside of the upper lining, giving you the choice of wearing them rolled down or simply as a high top. Also, they kept the sneaker looking crispy and clean while leaving the midsole completely white along with an all white heel patch. You have to make sure to keep these spotless and scuff free ;)
A MUST sneaker for the up and coming summer.
